It's Official...
It is official...we are OUT of the ESPZEN League for next season. This has been a truly sad and difficult decision for me, as I believe that playing in the ESPZEN league was a stepping stone in the right direction. However, due to the lack of funds and lack of committed players, the decision was made, after consultation with the Team Captain, Coach and Team Manager that it would be better to train more and recruit more players and add depth to the squad.
I believe strongly that we are a good team, because we are guided by a good coach and supported by a totally committed individual. The players have matured into thinking footballers, applying football sense on the pitch rather than running about aimlessly. This was only achieved through training and experiencing more matches.
By participating in ESPZEN League, regardless of the final outcome, the players have experienced the meaning of teamwork, team spirit and self belief. The players have rallied together towards one goal, that is, the ESPZEN Weekend Morning League Championship. Although it is just a social league, the fact that we are contenders for the title has truly motivated many of the players to give their best and their utmost support. From my experience as the President of the Club for the past few years, I doubt the players would give the same support if we were not within contention of the title.
Where lies our direction now?? The plan was to have more training sessions, maybe 3 times a week, but alas. we are unable to get ten players to attend a training session. We should have at least have 16 players per session for the training to be useful. Can we go on our current players? Most of them are very young. Players like Raimi, Fariq, Tommy and a few others have yet to serve NS. Others have work commitments that prevent them from coming for training.
Even if we do train 3 times a week, players would not get motivated as there are no matches to be played, since we are out of the league. So, we play regular friendly matches. Who is going to fund the matches? Can we create a pool? How many of our players are willing to contribute regularly towards the club. Some of our players are finacially constraint...
My words may be harsh and you may say im pessimistic. Hopefully it would make you take a more active involvement in the affairs of the club. What do i mean by a more active involvement??
It means contibuting to the club...other than being a player. Recruiting committed players, attending trainings regularly, helping out with the kit, bringing refreshments, getting sponsorship, maintaining web site, taking pictures...etc
Only then can we take the step forward.
so my dear teammates, start thinking and start the ball rolling....and lets step out of the league with a bang...by WINNING THE ESPZEN WEEKEND MORNING LEAGUE!!!
