Its a tough job
A manager's job is never an easy one. Here I face great difficulty in appeasing the players who did not get to play in the competition.
Let us get our objective straight. What is our objective? We have to make a choice between playing social soccer and competitive soccer.
If we choose to play social soccer, then there is not a need for us to attend training sessions, engage a coach and the result should not affect any of us. Everybody would get equal chance to play at least one half of the match.
If we choose to play competitive soccer, then there IS a need for us to attend training sessions, engage a qualified coach, beef up the squad with the best players and have to do our best to achieve the best result. However, this choice would result in a team fielding their best 11 and only replacing them when the situation arises.
The teams that pulled out from the league were playing social football. It resulted in players not putting their hearts to the team and ended up in the teams having to withdraw due to lack of players. They have to fund the matches themselves which resulted in players not coming for the matches when they are broke. There was no goal and aim and therefore, no commitment.
We have already committed to the ESPZEN league as a platform to showcase our club. We have committed individuals and players who strive to bring this club to another level. I brought in new players, a coach, source for sponsorship, head hunting for committed management officials and getting involved in an established league setup not for the sake of playng social soccer.
If we choose to play social soccer, then we should not get involved in the league and just arrange a match when we feel like it. I believe all our efforts would go to waste if we fail to realise our aim and goal.
Maybe after the end of the league, we could make two teams, one for social football and the other for competitive football.
