Match Update...31 July 2005 vs Forca FC
Its been a few days since my last post. Usually I would post the update immediately once I reach home, however, I was too tired and stressed that day. Nevertheless, I managed to update the match report on ESPZEN's website.
The match was to be played in Sentosa. We arrived there with Numero Uno and Messina Greats still having their match. Messina was leading 3-2 and Numero Uno was down with 10 men. If the score remained after the final whistle, it would be great news for us. Nevertheless, it was not meant to be. Numero Uno equalised although they had another man sent off.
The event that followed was quite interesting. Numero Uno was not happy with the referee and appraoched him agressively. Messina Greats tried to appease them but was later involved in a short scuffle among a few of the players. The funny thing is, according to Forca, nobody made an incident report. An incident like that deserved to be reported. According to Lee Taylor, Messina Greats and the referee decided to play the whole incident down. Therefore, no disciplinary action was needed.
The players were jittery at first. I made a stupid mistake and allowed the ball to bounce towards goal. I should have known that Botak would not be able to anticipate it. We went down by one goal within the first 5 minutes. Forca had a formidable team, and they were attacking us all over the place. Saw and Yus were totally unable to cope with their speedy players. In midfield, Fuad was poor defensively. Luckily we had Reza who was quite outstanding in defence.
I told the players to be more determined during the match. They were too lethargic. Fuad was all over the place in the second half, though he was running aimlessly. Zali went for every ball, and with a stroke of luck, Francis scored. Yes...it was truly luck that saved us. Cos we played badly.
Actually, I was happy with the result, because we really deserve to lose. I was more disappointed with the fact that my players came unprepared for the match. They were not prepared physically, (i can understand that, especially when we train once a week), they were not prepared mentally (i can understand that, cos seems the whole team have no idea wat focus means) and not prepared to engage in a strenous activity like football.
Why do I say that? Cos here I am struggling my butt contributing to the team, being
the financier, transport and logistics officer, website administrator, messenger, assistant coach, laundry boy, recruiter etc....yet I cant depend on them to provide for themselves a bottle of water. Is it too much to ask for a player to bring his own drink, to replenish himself after a strenous activity. The fact that I bought 4 bottles of 100 Plus, just as a precautionary measure; imagine my disappointment to see that the 4 bottles were all dried up at half time. As a result, I did not have a taste for the drink that was supposed to hydrate me after the match!!
Sigh...this happen to be one of the days that I believe pulling out from the league is a right thing to do..
