Match Update...24 July vs Numero Uno
It was a day to remember. It was a show of commitment from the team. It was a display of loyalty to the club. It was totally a day to remember...
The day before, I received an sms from Reza, saying he would not be abe to make it as he was on duty. It was already bad that Richard was overseas. Guy was uncontactable and I assumed that he wont make it. Then early in the morning Yazid sms me saying that his aunt just passed away. Naj was with his parents in JB. Yus had earlier told me that he wont play if the venue was in Sentosa. I was really hoping that Nigerians would turn up....cos I have a bad feeling that we wont have enough players.
I was spot on about my feelings. Botak, Wak, Zali and me arrived at the field at about 0830hrs. It was a surpise to see Francis there...he was alone and therefore I knew that the team was in trouble. We had only 4 players. Faizal came soon after, with Fariq, Raimi and Fuad tagging along. It was a positive sign...as the day before I heard Raimi and Fuad were not coming. We have only 8 now. at least we wont be penalised for a walkover. At the same time, Guy sms me and said he couldnt make it. I trust he is committed to the team and I guess he had something important to attend to. At least he has the courtesy to call.
Tommy arrived soon after. We now have 9. I could see our opponents arriving in numbers. I decided to keep to myself. I told myself whatever the outcome is, I would give my best today. I called Botak and decided to help him in his warming up. Then out of the blue, Yus arrived with Saw. We now have 11, but not the strongest 11. But at least we would give our best.
I told the team to just play to Wak's instructions. And play we did......
Everyone put their hearts and soul to the game. Saw who was playing in his debut, was jittery at first but he marked his man out of the game. Everybody was determined to win...and it seemed that our luck has changed when Peter arrived with Kok Leong. It really boosted my morale...
In the end..who would have thought that we would beat Numero Uno 4-0. The team with the reputation of not losing and at the top of the table. We had no star player, and we dont need one. All we need are committed and humble individuals, who follows instructions and play as a team. If we continue to do that, then more success will follow.
